Micky van de Ven found the net on two occasions as Tottenham prolonged their winning streak in away games in the Premier League and delivered Everton their initial loss at their new home.

The Toffees were unbeaten in their five previous fixtures at their new ground at the dockside location, having departed their historic home behind after more than a century at the end of last season.

But Spurs captain the Dutchman pounced on two occasions from corners in the opening 45 minutes to put their impressive record at jeopardy, and they were unable to turn it around before the midfielder - set up by former Toffees attacker Richarlison - headed home a third to seal the victory.

Jake O'Brien believed he had levelled the scores five minutes after the defender's opener, glancing a bullet header past the Spurs keeper from an set-piece.

Beto, in the meantime, failed to convert a number of chances, while Vicario made a series of excellent saves to guarantee the London club went five matches on the road unbeaten in the Premier League.

But the VAR stepped in, instructing Craig Pawson to check the score on the screen and the referee ruled that Jack Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye were in offside positions and had impeded with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

The win elevates the manager's side into third place in the Premier League, a handful of points off north London rivals and leaders the Gunners.

Everton stay 14th and are half a dozen points ahead of the relegation zone.

Spurs breakdown: Van de Ven fulfils role at both ends of pitch

After a drab midweek display in the European competition against Monaco, where they managed a mere attempts on target, Frank opted for the French striker up front instead of former Toffees player the Brazilian.

The summer signing was unable to influence the game before being substituted for the substitute after an hour on the field, but it emerged he wasn't needed in the final outcome.

Centre-back Van de Ven converted into an offensive threat to be feared.

Tottenham's first goal came from a well-worked corner routine, with Rodrigo Bentancur heading the ball back across the six-yard box for an free the defender to head home.

And Ven de Ven - filling in as captain in Cristian Romero's absence - notched his second in added time as he rose above the England keeper to nod in.

Van de Ven was just as outstanding in defensive duties, combining effectively with Kevin Danso as the duo dealt superbly with the numerous deliveries thrown their way by the opposition.

Everton analysis: Everton lacking finishing touch

Everton's new home had been a fortress, but it seems the freshness may have worn off somewhat and fans flocked to the exits after the midfielder's third for Spurs.

The break in Everton's winning streak at home will not be a massive concern for the manager, but their attacking woes will be.

Beto and the other striker - the Everton's pair of recognised centre-forwards - had netted only one league goal between them before Sunday's match.

And they were failed to contribute to that poor record on a wet and gloomy night on in Liverpool.

The striker's form was epitomized when he chose to bicycle-kick a golden opportunity from near the goal, even with having space and opportunity to readjust for a simpler attempt that would have tested the keeper.

Barry, as well, was unable to influence the game after replacing the starter in the second half.

It wasn't for a shortage of chance. Most of the home side's attacks came through Grealish and Ndiaye, who tirelessly delivered dangerous balls into the Tottenham box.
